Welcome to the Emily Begg Fund Website

The Emily Begg Fund has been set up by Emily's parents Stuart and Colleen to fulfil Emily's wish to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Money from the Fund will be used to help equip the new Teenage Cancer Unit being built at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge. This is scheduled for completion late 2009.

Although the aim of The Fund was to raise £100,000 which could equip one medical room in the unit, thanks to the commitment of some very special friends and family the fund has far exceeded this and currently stands at £360,000.   This now means the contribution from the Emily Begg Fund  to Addenbrooke's Teenage Cancer Unit will be able to fund much more. This will allow teenagers with cancer to be nursed in the best possible environment. This type of unit is greatly needed as with it comes Specialist Medical Consultants which enables the best possible treatments to be given.

It also ensures the most up to date research and treatments are used.

Each day in the UK six, teenagers will find out they have cancer - this is over 2200 teenagers every year.  Most will be treated on wards with much younger children or much older adults - neither is appropriate for them.  Teenage Cancer Units provide the right environment for teenagers to be nursed and being with other teenagers can lead to special friendships being formed and supporting each other.

With each Teenage Cancer Unit comes specialist nurses and medical Consultants, who want to nurse teenagers.  This leads to research based and up to date medical treatments which is the only way forward in tackling cancer in teenagers.

The Teenage Cancer Trust aims to build 22 Units in the UK, so that every teenager diagnosed with cancer can have access to a specialised adolescent Unit.
